FLICKS BY THE FOUNTAIN FEATURES FREE FAMILY FARE
- Bee Movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Cheaper by the Dozen and Goonies to Screen at Beaverton’s Annual Outdoor Movie Fest this August -
Beaverton, Oregon (July 15, 2008) – Four free family-friendly movies will be shown during the annual Flicks by the Fountain film series at City Park (at the corner of Fifth Street and Hall Blvd.) in downtown Beaverton this summer. This family-friendly event will take place on the first four Friday evenings in August (1, 8, 15 and 22). Movies will begin at sunset with pre-movie activities beginning at 8 p.m.
This year’s pre-movie entertainment, presented by the Beaverton Arts Commission and sponsored by IBM will spotlight award-winning short films created by students who participated in the Beaverton School Districts’ Signal to Noise competition this past spring. Tulen Martial Arts, The Little Gym and MVP Dance Elite will also participate in pre-movie entertainment activities.
In May, the Beaverton community was invited to vote on their favorite movies via the City’s Web site, www.beavertonoregon.gov. Those that received the most votes determined the 2008 movie series selections:
Friday, August 1: Bee Movie (pre-movie entertainment: Tulen Martial Arts and short film Insect Parade by 2nd grade students in Mrs. Adam’s class at West TV Elementary School)
Friday, August 8: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp (pre-movie entertainment: The Little Gym and short film It is Easy Being Green by Joey Skeele, Stoller Middle School)
Friday, August 15: Cheaper by the Dozen (pre-movie entertainment: The Little Gym and short film How Big Is Your Footprint by Ryan Taylor, Southridge High School)
Friday, August 22: Goonies (pre-movie entertainment: MVP Dance Elite and short film Highlights of Sunset High School Orientation by Trace Downen, Sunset High School)
Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, food and low-backed chairs (seat height no higher than 11 inches) to this event. Refreshments are also available for purchase at City Park. Parking for this event is free and available at the City Park parking lot at the corner of 3rd Street and Hall Boulevard and at the Beaverton City Library parking lot at the corner of Tucker Avenue and 5th Street.
